Dear Papa,

I remember those days in high school, in 11th grade, when I stumbled, failing nearly all my subjects. I came home, bracing for your disappointment, but instead, you wrapped me in your embrace and whispered, “Why is my son afraid? I am with you, and together we’ll see this through. Don’t worry.”

It was your magical belief; your “one plus one equals eleven” that made me who I am. One you and one me, together making something extraordinary. I recall the last words we spoke in the final moments. I asked you, “One plus one equals?” And even without being able to speak, you answered with your hands, showing your index fingers together to show 11.

Today, this one is without his other half to make eleven, but I promise, dear Papa, to uphold your legacy. Everything you stood for the security, the love, the safety and the happiness you dreamed for your family and as your son, I will fulfil it.

In the chambers of my heart and soul, you will forever reside. We will flourish and find happiness, just as you wish. I love you, Papa. So, I will carry your spirit within me, and though you are not here, we will always be one plus one, from my soul to yours. We will always be 11.
