Robot vacuums have been solving floor-cleaning across single rooms and open-plan spaces for years, but stairs have remained the consistent limitation. Most models stop at the edge of a staircase. The Dreame Cyber X, first previewed at IFA Berlin in 2025 and formally announced at Dreame's Paris launch event this week, addresses that directly with a purpose-built stair-climbing system and now comes with a stair-cleaning function that was absent from the earlier concept.
The Cyber X is not a standalone vacuum. It is a separate Bionic QuadTrack chassis into which a compatible Dreame robot vacuum docks. The chassis uses four foldable legs with rubber treads, a biomimetic mechanism that combines tank-like tracks for traction with foot-like flexibility for stability on uneven surfaces. It can carry the docked vacuum up and down a full flight of stairs, navigating steps up to 25cm in height and slopes up to 42 degrees, at a speed of 0.2 meters per second. Straight and curved staircases are both supported, and the system covers up to four floors per run.
Navigation is handled by an independent 3D ToF Vision system that scans the staircase geometry before climbing and adjusts traction and speed dynamically. A triple braking mechanism keeps the unit stable at each step and acts as a lock in the event of a battery depletion mid-climb. An obstacle recognition system pauses movement when it detects a person or object on the stairs.
The stair-cleaning capability, new to this production version, deploys two small arms fitted with rotating brushes from the rear of the chassis as it descends. Combined with 6,000Pa suction from the docked vacuum unit, each step is cleaned on the way down. A 5,200mAh battery supports multi-level operation, and the Cyber X is compatible with Dreame's X60 Pro series of robot vacuums.
The Dreame Cyber X is priced at €1,199 and is expected to be available from September 2026.
