LEGO Bloom Exhibition in Shanghai Brings Together 380,000 Flowers and Interactive Art

More than 380,000 LEGO flowers form the centerpiece of the LEGO Bloom Exhibition at TANK Shanghai, where large-scale botanical sculpture, contemporary art and interactive experiences come together along the West Bund waterfront. Running from October 1 to 29, 2026, the exhibition transforms the former industrial site into a setting for exploring flowers through the language of LEGO bricks.
The most prominent installation, LEGO Botanical Wave, stretches approximately 30 meters across an outdoor area of around 800 square meters. Built from LEGO flowers including roses, sunflowers and tulips, the installation creates a continuous sweep of color against the architecture of the former oil tank complex. Its scale places individual brick-built flowers within a larger composition, shifting the familiar botanical form into the realm of public art.
The exhibition is divided into three zones. The outdoor Botanical Wave establishes the central visual feature, while Where Blooms Begin brings together 18 installations by artists and LEGO enthusiasts. These works combine LEGO botanicals with materials such as metal, textiles and mirrors, offering different interpretations of floral form, structure and arrangement.
A further outdoor section, the Bloom Gallery, presents 18 floral arrangements in everyday settings. Rather than treating flowers only as decorative objects, the displays consider how botanical forms can be incorporated into different environments and how familiar arrangements change when constructed from LEGO elements.

One of the exhibition's more kinetic works has been created by artist Ian Douglas-Jones in collaboration with Atelier INDJ. Mirrored frames and moving LEGO bouquets introduce movement and reflection into the display, allowing the arrangements to be experienced from changing viewpoints.
Digital participation is also part of the exhibition. A 360-degree environment responds to visitors' movements, while an interactive activity allows participants to build LEGO flowers and scan them into a virtual garden. Each contribution becomes part of a collective digital field, connecting individual acts of making with a larger shared installation.
The exhibition also includes a pop-up shop. The outdoor Botanical Wave can be viewed without a reservation, while advance booking is required for the indoor exhibition spaces through the LEGO WeChat Mini Program. Visitors should check the official exhibition information for current entry arrangements before travelling.

At TANK Shanghai, the LEGO Bloom Exhibition brings together the visual appeal of flowers, the possibilities of modular construction and the participation of artists and visitors. The result is an exhibition in which the familiar language of botanical arrangements is reinterpreted through sculpture, reflective materials and digital interaction.
