Tramontina Brings Its Century-Old Iron Craft to the Indian Kitchen

Tramontina, the Brazilian housewares manufacturer that has been producing cookware since 1911, has introduced Heritage Iron, a range built around the specific demands of Indian cooking rather than adapted from an existing international line. The company describes it as a response to a shift it has observed in Indian kitchens, where iron cookware has long been valued for its heat retention and durability but has increasingly needed to compete with materials that are lighter and easier to maintain.
According to Tramontina, the range is made from an alloy of 99 percent iron and up to 1 percent carbon, with no chemical coating applied at any stage. The brand states that its non-stick quality develops through seasoning with cooking oil over repeated use, a process it positions as closer to how cast iron has traditionally behaved than to synthetic coatings that wear down over time. Tramontina has not published independent testing data on heat distribution or coating durability, and these claims reflect the company's own description of the product rather than an assessment we have conducted ourselves.

The brand says its design process involved studying how iron cookware is actually used across Indian households before finalizing individual pieces. A dosa tawa, in this account, needs a flat surface capable of holding heat evenly across its width, while a kadhai needs the depth and curve suited to the higher volumes and higher temperatures of frying and tempering. Tramontina has applied this logic across the collection, which includes fry pans, kadhais, a dosa tawa, a patri tawa, and an appachetty, alongside a wok that extends the range beyond strictly Indian formats.
Visually, the pieces depart from the plain cast iron most Indian households already own. Handles are brushed 304 stainless steel, lids are toughened glass, and the shapes are designed to sit on open shelving rather than disappear into a cupboard. Tramontina is backing the range with a lifetime warranty, a decision the company frames as consistent with how iron cookware has historically been treated in Indian homes, as an object passed down rather than replaced.
Heritage Iron is priced at Rs 2,795 and is available through Tramontina's own website, major e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms, and a number of retail stores across India.
