The Balcoon bathroom collection, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Duravit, brings together ceramic, furniture, and fittings within a single design system defined by geometric layering and material contrast. The range includes washbasins, toilets, bidets, furniture consoles, bathtubs, and faucets, developed to function as a coordinated bathroom environment rather than as individual standalone products.
The collection is structured around a recurring formal principle based on two-level compositions. This approach is most visible in the countertop washbasins, where round or oval basins are positioned on square or rectangular plinth-like bases. The elevated basin volume sits clearly above the lower support plane, creating a visible separation between functional and structural elements.
This layered geometry continues across other ceramic components in the collection. Wall-mounted washbasins, floor-mounted toilets, and bidets all follow the same visual logic, with upper and lower volumes expressed as distinct parts of a single form.
A new ceramic finish, Clay Terra Matt, was developed specifically for this collection. This terracotta-toned surface introduces a matte texture that emphasises the tactile qualities of ceramic material. In addition to this finish, the ceramic elements are also available in White and White Satin Matt.
All ceramic components include a protective glaze system applied during manufacturing. This surface treatment is designed to simplify cleaning and maintain surface condition during regular use.
Bathroom furniture within the Balcoon range follows a similar geometric and material structure. Console units include integrated rear panels, drawers, and open shelving. Storage elements are arranged in horizontal layers, reinforcing the same stacked visual order seen in the ceramic forms.
Furniture finishes are offered in light neutral tones such as Ivory and Sand Beige. These colours are intended to function alongside both white and terracotta ceramic finishes. The furniture design avoids visible handles, using concealed opening systems instead. This maintains continuous, uninterrupted front surfaces.
The collection includes configurations for both single and double washbasin installations. Larger console units incorporate multiple drawers, while compact versions combine drawers with open shelving. This allows the system to adapt to different bathroom sizes.
Faucets designed for the Balcoon collection follow the same design language. The handles are elliptical in cross-section and connect to the faucet body through smooth, continuous transitions. The fittings are manufactured in Chrome, Black Matt, and Brushed Stainless Steel finishes.
These faucets incorporate water management features intended to regulate consumption. These systems control flow volume and temperature behaviour during use.
Bathtubs in the Balcoon range are produced using acrylic construction. The tubs follow the same two-level design principle, with a raised inner bathing volume set within a surrounding outer structure. The rim profile maintains the oval geometry seen in the washbasins. Bathtubs are available in White and Matt White finishes.
The collection has been positioned to function across residential and hospitality applications. The range includes wall-mounted and floor-mounted installation options to support different architectural requirements.
Material consistency across ceramics, furniture, and fittings allows the elements to function as a unified system. Individual components can also be installed separately while maintaining compatibility with other parts of the range.
The Balcoon collection reflects an approach where ceramic form, storage furniture, and water fittings are developed together rather than as independent product categories.
